Strong Winds Cause Damage in Mecosta County

Posted: Updated:

Wild winds are leaving behind damage to homes and businesses in Mecosta County.

Hanchett Manufacturing in Big Rapids lost part of their roof and insulation after powerful gusts of wind ripped through the area. The missing roof caused water to drip in to the building creating puddles across the floor. Light also peaked through the roof where the sheet metal had been torn off.

The company says the winds did between $12,000 and $15,000 worth of damage. They plan to fix the roof when the winds die down.

More damage was done in the town of Mecosta. Blustery winds took down three pine trees on two lakefront properties. The largest one snapped at the base, while the other two were completely uprooted. No one was hurt. One homeowner plans to cut up the tree and use it as fire wood.
