Posted: Updated:

More and more youth are finding themselves without a home.

According to the Michigan Department of Education, the number of homeless students has risen 66 percent over the last four years.

Here in northern Michigan, the increase is also occurring.

In Traverse City, HOST Homes for Homeless Youth, and Pete's Place, say they have seen the number of kids using their services rise over the past few years.

They say that many of the reasons for their homelessness correlate with the recent recession.

9 & 10's Meredith Barack and photojournalist Jeff Blakeman explore the recent increase in homeless kids.
