The Mecosta County Sheriff's Office had perfectly good, effective tasers on hand.
The problem was, their supplier stopped making parts for their model.
To avoid them breaking down and not being able to repair them, Sheriff Todd Purcell ordered a new complete set.
He then donated his old tasers to the Barryton and Morley Police Departments, two squads that didn't carry the expensive weapon.
As tasers have become more common, the need for police to put themselves in danger has decreased as well as the need for drawing their guns.
