UPDATE: Police Conduct Multiple Interviews In The Search for Baby Kate

Posted: Updated:

Investigators in Mason county say they will continue to search for a missing baby girl.

Katherine Phillips, also known as Baby Kate, disappeared back in 2011 when she was just 4 1/2 months old.

Investigators say they have interviewed several witnesses this week, and plan to resume the search for remains in late June.

Baby Kate's death is being treated as a homicide.

Her father, Sean Phillips, is in prison for unlawful imprisonment.

Investigators think that botanical evidence found Sean Phillips' shoes could lead them to the body.

Police in Ludington announced new developments in the case of missing Mason County Baby Katherine Phillips at a press conference Wednesday morning.

Investigators say it will allow them to continue to search for Baby Kate by using soil samples from across the county to narrow in on new areas.

Investigators tested dirt from Sean Phillip's shoes, which contains some unique and rare species of plants they hope to match through the botanical search.

Police are confident they will be able to use the samples to locate the area where Sean was walking the day Baby Kate went missing.

Officers are planning to search on June 28 & 29, and they are looking for volunteers to help with a background in plant identification.

Volunteers have to apply by May 1st. Here is a link to their application: http://www.ludington.mi.us/news/news_detail_T2_R395.html

Baby Kate was just 4 months old when she disappeared in June of 2011 in Ludington.

Her mother Ariel Courtland and father Sean Phillips had been arguing over custody issues that day.

Phillips was eventually arrested.

Last year, he was found guilty of unlawful imprisonment related to Kate's disappearance and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Police believe the baby is dead, but her body has never been found.
