UPDATE: Governor Signs Bear Handling Bill

Posted: Updated:

In this update, visitors to Oswald's Bear Ranch in Newberry can now have contact with cubs again.

Governor Snyder signed a bill into law today that will allow the handling of bear cubs less than 36 weeks old, or weighing no more than 90 pounds.

Oswald's had always let visitors get pictures with the bear cubs, up until last summer when they were told it wasn't allowed.

Many zoos do not agree with this law.

The Michigan Humane Society is also against it, claiming it sends the wrong message about safety around bears.
