Posted: Updated:

Newaygo County police responded to a home in Bitely, where an entire family was being threatened with a gun.

Police say someone called reporting that their step dad was threatening the family with a deer rifle at their home.

While on the way to the scene, police were told that shots had been fired.

Police secured the other people at the home and found the suspect outside the back door of the house on the ground, where he had been shot 3 times by his step son.

The suspect was taken to Mecosta General Hospital, treated, and released with non-life threatening injuries.

The five people at the home were not injured and medically cleared at the scene.

Police believe everything started after a family disagreement.

After a search warrant of the suspect's residence, police uncovered an elaborate marijuana grow operation.

74 plants were seized as well as multiple weapons.

The suspect is now at the Newaygo County Jail where he is facing multiple charges.
