CMU Clarifies Rule for Pepper Spray on Campus

Posted: Updated:

After recent events, Central Michigan University students demanded to be able to carry pepper spray on campus.

But according to the policy, they were actually allowed to all along.

Confusion came from a line in the student policy banning "dangerous chemicals and substances used to cause injury".

CMU officials and the student government came together and determined pepper spray does not fall in either category and the school's weapons policy does not apply.

Every night hundreds of students make their way through and around campus after dark.

And now the school has clarified their students can feel free to carry the self defense aid.

9&10's Eric Lloyd looked into the confusion and has more details.
