A Mount Pleasant man accused of assault was indicted yesterday by a federal grand jury in Bay City.
Bret Shomin was arraigned earlier today on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm, domestic assault by a habitual offender, and witness tampering on an Indian Reservation.
Shomin is accused of hitting a woman with an end table and cutting her face with a piece of a broken mirror.
Shomin has been previously convicted of at least two assaults against an intimate partner.
He is also accused of trying to convince the victim to lie during her grand jury testimony.
If Shomin is convicted, he faces up to 35 years in prison.
