FTA Says BATA in Violation of Charter Laws

Posted: Updated:

A collaboration between the Bay Area Transportation Authority and Suttons Bay Area Schools has been ordered to cease and desist.

The BATA bus system received a letter stating they are in violation of charter laws, by picking up school children and busing them to and from school.

Suttons Bay Schools ended their transportation services in 2010, and created "flex-routes" to help the school cut costs.

But the Federal Transportation Authority says they are not complying with a number of statutory requirements, and they have 90 days to discontinue the service.

BATA says they are still deciding whether or not to appeal the violation complaint.

They will continue to bus students for as long as they can.
