Mount Pleasant May Soon Apply City Income Tax

Posted: Updated:

If you work in Mount Pleasant, a new income tax may soon be applied to your paycheck.

The city says the state's cut-backs would be the reason for the income tax, and held a public meeting tonight to hear concerns from residents.

The city is looking to stabilize their finances, and say they can only do so by either implementing the income tax or increasing the city millage rate.

For those that live and work in the city, the income tax would be one percent.

For non-residents that work there, it would be one half of a percent.

Many are concerned that this will significantly effect them, and hope the city can seek out alternative solutions to fix the problem.

9 & 10's Meredith Barack and photojournalist Jeff Blakeman were at the meeting and heard more on how it may effect residents.
