BREAKING NEWS: Jury Reaches Verdict in Kilpatrick Trial

Northern Michigan's News Leader is following breaking news out of Detroit today, were a jury has just convicted ex-mayor Kwame Kilpatrick of corruption.

It comes after a five-month trial in federal court.

The government says Kilpatrick rigged city contracts to help earn himself and his friend Bobby Ferguson cash.

Witnesses said Kilpatrick got bribes and kickbacks from his political fundraiser and a convention center contractor. He was also accused of tapping a nonprofit fund for personal use.
