Sault hockey loses in state final 4-2

Sault Ste Marie hockey traveled a total of 5,382 miles this year. Those miles earned them a bid into the Division State Finals, but they would not come away with the State Title.

The Blue Devils lost to Cranbrook-Kingswood 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the Compuware Arena in Plymouth.  The stat of the game: the Cranes outshot the Blue Devils 38-10.

Cranbrook held a 2-0 lead before Chase Gamelin got Sault Ste Marie on the board in the Second Period.  However, over the next 2:35 Alex Alger would score a pair of goals to give the Cranes a 4-1 edge going into the Third Period.

Gamelin added one more goal in the third.

Sault Ste Marie has not won a State Title in hockey since 1989.
