Manistee Township Meets to Discuss Future of Meijer Store Site - Northern Michigan's News Leader

Manistee Township Meets to Discuss Future of Meijer Store Site

Posted: Updated:

People in Manistee County have a lot to say about allowing a big name retailer to build there.

Representatives from Meijer presented plans for their store, fielding questions and concerns from many.

Plans for the 192,000 square foot store include a gas station and drive-thru pharmacy.

Though the store would mean 250 jobs for the community, many still were concerned about the affect it would have on other businesses in Manistee.

Most residents were enthusiastic about the store, and say they won't miss driving far to shop.

Those involved in developing the store say there's a long way to go before the store will be up and running for shoppers.

If everything does go as planned, the Meijer representatives say they hope to have the store open sometime in 2015.

The township says there will be more meetings about the store.

9 & 10's Meredith Barack and photojournalist Jeff Blakeman were at the meeting and have more on what was discussed.
