UPDATE: Search Crews Locate Missing Snowmobiler on Mullett Lake

Posted: Updated:

An early morning call sparked a search of Mullett Lake, in Cheboygan County.

Cheboygan County Sheriff Dale Clarmont says James Larder II had met some friends at a bar in Topinabee before heading onto the lake around 11:00 p.m., Tuesday.

When his wife hadn't heard from him, she reported him missing early this morning.

Search crews narrowed their search to the mouth of the Indian River.

They recovered Larder's body, as well as his snowmobile.

The sheriff says while the ice on the lake is thick, areas around any kind of mouth or stream opening can become thin, very quickly.

9&10's Christina Vecchioni and photojournalist Eric Davis have more details after spending the day in Cheboygan County.

Northern Michigan's News Leader is at Mullett Lake in Cheboygan County this morning after a snowmobiler was reported missing.

We are told search crews located James Larder II of Eaton Rapids and his snowmobile in the lake, and dive teams are trying to retrieve the man now.

Few details area available, but we do know that Larder has a seasonal home in the area.

A detective tells us the call came in around 3 a.m. and crews worked through the early morning on Mullet Lake non-stop.
