Local Tribe Moves to Recognize Gay Marriage

Posted: Updated:

The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians has voted to recognize gay marriage.

The legislative body for the tribe voted 5 to 4 on the issue Sunday.

The measure is being sent to the tribal chairman, who can sign it or veto it within 30 days.

Voters approved a ban on gay marriage in 2004, but tribes are self-governing.

9&10's Vanessa Fayz and photojournalist Jeremy Erickson have more on the statute, and what it means for the tribe.
