Meijer Looks to Build Store in Manistee

Posted: Updated:

One northern Michigan community may have a big retail name in their town soon.

Meijer is looking to build a store in Manistee.

Though it will be two to three years before the store is built, many are already torn over whether or not this will be good for the city.

The store would be located on the southeast corner of M-55 and 31.

Those who live nearby are concerned about the traffic it may bring to the already busy intersection.

Others look forward to the fact they won't have to go as far as Ludington or Traverse City to shop.

Many also hope the proposed store will draw in more tourists.

The Manistee Township planning commission has a meeting on Thursday, and the proposed Meijer project is on the agenda.

9 & 10's Meredith Barack and photojournalist Jeff Blakeman have more on what the store would mean for the city.
