Reed City Prepares to Tear Down Historic Osceola Inn

Posted: Updated:

Reed City received $370,000 from the Department of Human Services, the Michigan Land Bank and the State Housing Development Authority.

It's for what they call "blight improvement".

The city plans to use the blight grant to tear down the Osceola Inn, a landmark in Reed City that's been vacant for eight years.

Escalating costs and maintenance forced the Inn to close.

Since then it has sat deteriorating and becoming both an eyesore and public safety hazard.

It's a bittersweet announcement for a town that leaned on the Inn at one time and a place many people grew up with.

9&10's Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Jacob Johnson spoke with the city on the decision and have more details.
