UPDATE: Power Restored Across Multiple Counties

UPDATE 10:10 pm: The power has been restored for all affected customers.

A widespread outage is leaving thousands of people without any power tonight.

Consumers Energy tells us that a downed transmission line is to blame for about 14,000 customers without power.

Parts of Big Rapids, Reed City, Evart, and Baldwin are waiting for the lights to come back on.

Ferris State University closed at 3:00 this afternoon because of the outage.

About 2,000 customers in Big Rapids did get their power back, but it's not clear when the main line issue will be fixed.

Thousands of residents in northern Michigan are without power.

Consumers Energy says that a downed transmission line is to blame.

A transmission line is an electrical line that serves several sub stations that then transmit power to customers.

So far Consumers is reporting about 16,000 are without power, mostly in Mecosta with more than 9,800 without power.

Central Dispatch says all of Big Rapids, Reed City, Evart, Baldwin, and parts of Cadillac are without power.

    Breaking news tonight, 9&10 News learned convicted murderer Eric Knysz tried to hang himself in prison. We have confirmed Knysz is now on life support. Knysz was just sentenced last week to life in prison
    UPDATE: 9 & 10 News has just confirmed that convicted murderer Eric Knysz has been declared brain dead.

    Knysz was on life support after the suicide attempt that took place Monday afternoon.
