UPDATE: Schwander Scheduled To Be Resentenced For a Second Time

Posted: Updated:

The man who murdered Traverse City teenager Carly Lewis will be resentenced again, but this time by a new judge.

In 2011, Robert Schwander was sentenced to spend 40 to 70 years in prison for Carly's murder.

His lawyers said that exceeded the sentencing guidelines.

In February, the same judge reduced the sentence by 2 years, but Schwander's attorney says it wasn't a substantial change.

The court of appeals agreed so now Schwander will be resentenced by a different judge.

It's not clear when that will happen.

A Grand Traverse County Judge trimmed two years off the sentence for Robert Jensen Schwander.

A jury found Schwander guilty of second degree murder for the 2011 stabbing death of 16 year old Carly Lewis in Traverse City.

Judge Thomas power sentenced him to 40 to 70 years in prison, exceeding the minimum recommended under state guidelines.

Power failed to explain why he exceeded the guidelines and was ordered to resentence Schwander.

His minimum sentence is now 38 years.
