UPDATE: Family Continues to Search for Missing Big Rapids Man

Posted: Updated:

We have an update on the search efforts for a Mecosta county man who hasn't been seen since February.

Fred Byrne from Big Rapids went missing after dropping his son off at college near Holland.

Police later found his car in a remote part of the Mark Twain National Forest in southern Missouri.

Family members aren't giving up hope in finding Byrne or figuring out what happened to him.

His brother-in-law made a list of every county between Holland and the national forest.

The car may have passed through Indiana and Illinois.

The search for a Northern Michigan man has taken a very strange turn, 600 miles away from home.

Fred Byrne's car turned up in Missouri late yesterday, but he is still missing.

Byrne was last seen Tuesday at his mother's home in Ottawa County.

He told his family he was shopping to buy his wife a present at a mall before returning to Big Rapids.

Yesterday, police found Byrne's car in the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri.

Byrne was in Ottawa County to drop his son off at Hope College.

His wife told us he left a note saying he'd be home around 6:00 Tuesday night.

When he didn't show up, she called police.

9&10's Meredith Barack has more on the search for Fred Byrne.
