Ogemaw County Housing Oscoda County Inmates Under New Agreement

Posted: Updated:

The Ogemaw County jail is filling beds and the sheriff says it means more money for the county.

Oscoda County recently approved a contract to house inmates at the Ogemaw County jail instead of Montmerency County's jail.

The new contract will bring in about $120,000 a year, according to the sheriff.

The county built the 120 bed jail more than two years ago so they wouldn't have to pay other counties to house their inmates.

Oscoda County decided to use the Ogemaw jail primarily to save money on medical expenses. Many jails have to spend time and money transporting inmates to the doctor.

The sheriff is hoping his jail can help and that more counties will use it.

Kyle Mitchell and Photojournalist Jacob Johnson have more on the agreement.
