Comedy Returns to Traverse City This Winter

Posted: Updated:

After taking a year off, comedy is back in Traverse City this winter.

More than 25 comedians will arrive today and tomorrow for the Traverse City Winter Comedy Arts Festival.

Last year the comedy festival decided to cancel because it did not want to be scheduled on the same weekend as the microbrew festival. Organizers also said they wanted to spread out the events for the community and local economy.

This year the organizers of the Winter Wow Fest have combined their event with the comedy festival.

The festival will shut down front street in front of the state theater and install a synthetic ice rink, ferris wheel, and sledding hill. All those events are free.

Kathleen Madigan will kick off the event tonight at the city opera house and Colin Quinn will perform at the State Theatre.

Kyle Mitchell and Photojournalist Jeff Blevins have more as the city prepares for the festival.
