President Obama Calls for Higher Minimum Wage

Posted: Updated:

President Obama says the raise would mean more purchasing power for workers.

But the burden is placed on employers to cough up the extra money.

A jump from the Michigan minimum wage of $7.40 an hour to $9.00 is a 21% raise.

In 2007, Michigan raised minimum wage almost $2 but did it over a 2-year span to allow employers to adjust.

Businesses are unsure how the increase will effect their business models but employees of nearly all wages are set to benefit from the raise.

9&10's Eric Lloyd spoke with local businesses to see what the possible raise means to them and has more details.
