UPDATE: Cadillac Doctor Accused of Illegally Prescribing Med. Marijuana

A Cadillac doctor is accused of prescribing medical marijuana to patients who didn't need it.
A judge charged Doctor Edward Harwell Wednesday afternoon in Wexford County District Court.
The Traverse Narcotics Team says he intentionally falsified medical records and prescribed marijuana.
The judge read the charges through video arraignment. They include conspiring to commit a crime, and intentionally falsifying patient charts.
Police sent in three people earlier this month as part of an investigation into the Triple M Clinic in downtown Cadillac. Harwell also owns a clinic in Ann Arbor.
The narcotics team says Harwell was not abiding by state medical marijuana laws.
"Basically they went in there and saw him and we're able to obtain a card with a very minimal amount of information," said Patrick Boyd of the Traverse Narcotics Team. "The problem is that it's establishing that bonafide doctor patient relationship generally that is not established in just a five minute visit."
Police searched the Triple M Clinic Wednesday afternoon for medical records related to the case.
Harwell's attorney says his client has been a dedicated medical professional for 50 years, and will be fully exonerated.
Harwell's next court date has not been scheduled.
