Many Northern Michigan Schools Exceed Limit on Snow Days

Posted: Updated:

The bad weather closed more than a hundred schools across northern Michigan on Monday. However, many districts have already used all available snow days.

Cadillac Area Public Schools canceled for the ninth time this year. The state allows the district seven snow days so Cadillac will have to make up two days at the end of the year.

The superintendent says icy road conditions early in the morning kept buses on the lot.

Since so many districts are in the same situation, the state could make an exception and not require make up days.

The district says the safety of students and staff is its top priority. If road conditions are dangerous, the superintendent would gladly cancel school again even if that means a longer year.

Kyle Mitchell and Photojournalist Jared Barracko have more on what canceling school means for students and staff.
