Governor Snyder's Budget Proposal

Posted: Updated:

Governor Rick Snyder's budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year is now on the table.

Fixing the state's roads and bridges is a driving force behind Governor Snyder's 2014 budget plan.

A major piece of his plan is to raise the state gasoline tax and increase vehicle registration fees.

Ultimately it boils down to a  typical family having to pay $120 more per car each year, if the changes go into effect.

The proposed 50.9 billion dollar budget also calls for a 2% funding increase for K-12 schools, community colleges, and universities.

He also wants to raise the gas tax and expand Medicaid to more uninsured people.

The 2014 fiscal year begins October 1st.

All of the governor's ideas need to be approved by the legislature before becoming official.

Christina Vecchioni and Meredith Barrack will have more on what people around Northern Michigan think about the budget tonight on 9&10 News at 6:00.
