11 Massachusetts pharmacies have been shut down, after several inspections prompted by the deadly, Fungal Meningitis outbreak.

So far, the outbreak has killed 45 people and sickened more than 600 people, nationwide.

Michigan was hit especially hard.

The outbreak was caused by tainted steroid injections used for neck and back pain that were made at the New England Compounding Center, which has since been closed down.

Since September, the State of Massachusetts has begun unannounced inspections at 40 of their sterile compounding pharmacies.

On top of the 11 cease and desist orders, 21 other pharmacies were cited for minor problems.
