I-500 Snowmobile Race Attracts Thousands to Sault Ste. Marie

Posted: Updated:

The I-500 snowmobile race starts Saturday, in Sault Ste. Marie.

The race chairman says 40 teams are expected to race, which he says is the most they've had in decades.

The event creates a huge business boom for the area.

Many hotels in town are full, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau says the impact is significant and widespread.

There is a parade lap scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, that will feature the pace sled from 1970.

The green flag drops for the I-500 at 10:00 a.m.

9&10's Christina Vecchioni and photojournalist Eric Davis have more details from Sault Ste. Marie.
