UPDATE: Kalkaska County House Fire

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Crews believe a water heater sparked a fire at a home in Kalkaska County, yesterday afternoon.

The home is on County Road 612 in Kalkaska behind the Jehovah Witnesses Church.

The owners were home at the time of the fire and smelled smoke.

They called 911 and make it out of the house safely.

The home is a total loss, but the Fire Chief says crews were able to salvage home of their belongings.

He says with yesterday's cold temperatures, their main challenge was making sure the trucks didn't freeze.

The fire departments on scene, were able to extinguish the fire in about two hours.
