JUST IN: Deadly Snowmobile Accident in Lake County

Posted: Updated:

JUST IN: A man is dead tonight, after crashing his snowmobile into a tree.

9&10 News just got off the phone with the Lake County Sheriff, who is currently at the scene of the accident on East Centerline Road, about a 1.5 to 2 miles East of M-37, on the border of Peacock and Weber Townships.

He tells us, 65-year-old Frank Smith from Baldwin, was driving too fast around a corner when he left the trail and struck a tree.

Smith was leading a group of four people, including his son, around the final corner of the snowmobile trail when it happened.

The Sheriff says he was declared dead at the scene.

Though the investigation is still going, alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Stay with 9&10 News, as we continue to bring you the latest updates on the accident.
