UPDATE: Business Fire in Traverse City

Posted: Updated:

Monday, fire crews spent most day working to put out a fire at a roofing company, in Traverse City.

Firefighters were on the scene for more then five hours working to completely extinguish the flames, at Arrow Roofing and Supply Inc. on Wellington, just off of Eighth Street in Traverse City.

The fire was reported by a passerby and when the Traverse City Fire Department arrived, their first concern was making sure any hazardous materials were put out immediately.

Flames coming from the roof were put out, but then re-ignited.

There are also reports of explosions inside of the building.

Crews were at the scene until about 9:45 PM, last night, working to put out hot spots.

The Fire Chief, Jim Tuller says no one was in the building at the time of the fire and no one was hurt, but the building sustained heavy structural damage from both the heat and smoke.

"There seems to be quite a bit of damage on the inside of the building; however, we'll be back here tomorrow when its daylight to do a fire investigation.  We'll secure the building for the night and then we'll continue our investigation in the morning," says Tuller.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
