Clare County Man Arrested for Torturing Toddler

Posted: Updated:

Police arrested Andrew Sanderson for abusing and torturing a 17 month old boy and then beating his girlfriend, the boy's mother.

At the time of the incident, Sanderson was out on bond for a previous domestic abuse case.

The Clare County prosecutor says he tortured the boy at the couple's apartment in Hayes Township just south of Harrison.

The police were originally called to the apartment for a domestic call early yesterday morning and were called off as a misunderstanding.

Things became serious when they were called to the hospital in Clare, due to the injuries sustained by the toddler.

That's when police arrested Sanderson and the domestic charges were added.

Sanderson was arrested for domestic violence in early December against the same woman and was out on bond.

The prosecutor says he used that freedom to abuse a child so badly, it could be considered torture.

9&10's Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Jeff Blakeman dove into this story this evening and have more details.
