Former FSU Bulldog Chris Kunitz named to CCHA All-Decade Team

Posted: Updated:

Chris Kunitz is already known as one of the greatest hockey players in Ferris State history, but now he's being honored as one of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) greatest players as well.

Kunitz was one of six players named to the CCHA 2000-13 All-Decade First Team today.  The team was chosen from a pool of Hobey Baker Award winners and All-Americans who played at least three years of college hockey.  A committee of coaches, administrators and media who have been involved with the league for the better part of the last three decades made the selections.

During his All-American senior season at FSU in 2002-2003, Kunitz helped lead the Bulldogs to their first-ever CCHA Regular Season Championship and the program's first-ever NCAA Division I Championship Tournament appearance.  He concluded his four-year run at Ferris ranking second in career goals (99), tied for sixth in points (175), and 18th in assists (76).

In the ten years since, Kunitz has compiled an impressive NHL resume by winning two Stanley Cup Championships as a member of the Anaheim Ducks (2007) and Pittsburgh Penguins (2009).  Kunitz has 353 career points (151 goals, 202 assists) in 535 regular season games with the Ducks, Penguins and Atlanta Thrashers.
