Safe Harbor Overnight Shelter Sees Record Number of Homeless During Extreme Cold Temperatures

Posted: Updated:

Many people don't have the luxury of going home and turning on the heat when it's this cold. Safe Harbor is an overnight, mobile homeless shelter, in Grand Traverse County; 23 different churches in the area rotate hosting the shelter throughout the winter months. With these cold temperatures, the numbers of people they have seen seeking shelter are higher than ever.

Goodwill and Safe Harbor are currently in need of men's winter gloves, to donate, call: 231-922-4805, or visit the Goodwill location on South Airport Road, in Traverse City.

9and10's Sara Simnitch, and Photojournalist, Jeremy Erickson, learned just how great the need is for shelter this week.
