3:00 Weather Update

Posted: Updated:

Heaviest of the lake effect bands are winding down a bit, so although there are advisories, they will likely be dropped before they are set to expire at 7 tonight. Snow is still expected to fall through this afternoon and tonight, but smaller accumulations are expected.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for Luce county through 7pm tonight. 5-10" of additional snow is possible, especially along the Lake Superior Shore.

A Lake Effect Snow Advisory is in effect for Chippewa, Mackinac, Emmet, Cheboygan, Charlevoix, Antrim, Otsego, Leelanau, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Crawford, Manistee, Wexford, Mason, Lake, Oceana, & Newaygo counties through 7pm tonight. 1-3" is expected for many in this area, with 2-4" likely in the far NW lower areas where heavier bands have been setting up.

Lake effect continues today, particularly for those who have been seeing it for the past few days. Winds remain out of the west, at 8-16mph. Today is the coldest day of the week by far, with high temperatures reaching -4 to 8 degrees, and wind chills much colder. Those out of the lake effect areas will see a bit of sunshine today, but remain bitterly cold.

Tonight continues the serious chill and lake effect. Lows will drop into the negatives and single digits above zero. Winds start to vary a bit, and lighten up.

Wednesday warms up a bit, with highs reaching 11-17 degrees. A clipper moves through spreading light snow to areas north, along with lake effect enhancement throughout the day. Additional accumulations will occur.

Temperatures gradually warm up into the weekend, with 20's and low 30's expected by Sunday and Monday, with chances for more snow in the coming days.
