Family, friends and hundreds of members of law enforcement from around the state gathered today at the Cadillac High School for the funeral service of Cadillac Police Officer Bill Kanitz.

Officer Kanitz died on Tuesday, January 15th while on duty.

He had served at the Cadillac Police Department for 23 years.

He was 50 years old and leaves behind a wife and two sons.

William and Matt Kanitz, his two sons, say their dad was a great man full of honesty and integrity.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time in the UP.

They also say the community has really come together to show them love and support during such a difficult time.

They want to offer special thanks to the Cadillac Police and Fire Departments, North Flight, the Michigan Honor Guard, the Meyering Family and Peterson's Funeral Home.

The Kanitz family also wants to thank the hundreds of police departments from across the state, who have reached out to offer them words of comfort them during their time of grief.

Photojournalists Corey and Stephanie Adkins were at today's funeral service and have more on the life of Officer Bill Kanitz.
