Village of Kalkaska Excited About New Development Plans

Posted: Updated:

Some may consider Kalkaska a "pass-through town," as people make their way to Traverse City.

But big changes are on the way; just last week the village decided to buy the old Erb Lumber property, and they have big plans.

The site is about 2.5 acres, right behind the Kalkaska Trout Statue and is much of the East side of Cedar Street.

The block is made up of four vacant buildings including a former bank, former Chamber of Commerce building, Village's museum and the Erb Lumber Yard.

The 300 East Development Plan will include a new residential building, movie theater, storefronts and a brew pub.

The deal was sealed last Friday for $67,000.

The village is looking at buying the vacant bank which is the only building on the block not owned by the village.
