Crews Hold Brown Bridge Dam Removal Walk Through

Posted: Updated:

Today crews took us back to the Brown Bridge Dam Removal site. The major deconstruction portion of the project is finished. The idea behind the project is to restore the Boardman River's flow, and the Brown Bridge Dam is the first of three to be removed, in Grand Traverse County.

The dam removal started back in August. In October, the Brown Bridge Dam had a breach in the de-watering structure, leading to the rapid release of water from the Brown Bridge Dam Pond. It prompted evacuations, killed wildlife, and flooded 53 properties in the Boardman River Valley. The removal of the dam is complete, but there is still work to be done.

9and10's Sara Simnitch, and Photojournalist, Jeremy Erickson were at today's walk through, and have more on the progress.
