Central Lake Makes Winter Carnival Fun Even Without the Snow

Posted: Updated:

Central Lake hosted their Annual Winter Carnival on Saturday, without the snow.

The Carnival was supposed to have a snow-shoe race, but it wound up being a 5K and 10K foot race, instead.

Changing up the races didn't seem to bother anyone, though, since the main goal of the event was to raise money for kids in Antrim County.

The scholarships will help these children attend Camp Hayo-Went-Ha Residential Camp and Sparks Day Camp.

The Carnival was filled with other activities including zip lines and rock wall climbing, plus indoor crafts like making bird feeders.

In a nutshell, it was a day of fun without the snow.

Simon Helyer, the Winter Carnival Assistant Director says,

"We do have an expansive land and some people like to just come out and participate in the Carnival activities, and then go and explore.  They get to walk the shores of Torch Lake, looking for Petoskey Stones and hang out at the beach."

In lieu of paying the $3 entrance fee, visitors could make a canned food donation to the Bellaire Food Pantry.
