Coast Guard Warns of Dangerous Ice on Lakes

Posted: Updated:

Many parts of Northern Michigan experienced temperatures in the 50's yesterday.

And as you can see outside, not much snow is left on the ground.

The ice on the lakes are melting as well and becoming very dangerous for ice fisherman.

The Frankfort Coast Guard tells 9&10 News that they measured the ice on Upper Herring Lake on Friday and then again on Saturday, they say they saw a significant decrease of ice on the lake.

The Coast Guard would like to remind those who venture out on the lake to always have an ice pick and screwdriver with you, just in case you fall through the ice so that you can pull yourself out.
