Traverse City Light and Power Wind Turbine Becoming Costly to Repair

Posted: Updated:

A wind turbine that's been turning in Leelanau County for more than 15 years is getting costly due to continuous repairs.

The Traverse City Light and Power turbine, in Elmwood Township, has been there since 1996. At that time, it was the first utility-grade turbine in the state, and the largest in the country; but, the company says in recent years they have had to put a fair amount of money into it. Now, Light and Power says it's only running at half-capacity.
