Local Officers Prepare to Enforce Kelsey's Law

Posted: Updated:

Local law enforcement stand behind a new law inspired by Sault Ste. Marie teen, Kelsey Raffaele.

Governor Snyder put his signature on Kelsey's Law, today.

Kelsey's Law, which takes effect in late March, makes it illegal for new drivers to use a cellphone while behind the wheel.

It applies to drivers with a Level 1, or Level 2 graduated driver's license.

Kelsey died in a 2010 car accident, when her car collided with an SUV.

Her family found out later she had been talking on her cellphone.

9&10's Christina Vecchioni and photojournalist Eric Davis have more details on how the law will impact new drivers.
