The Charlevoix County Police Department would like to warn residents of a phone scam happening in the area.
Police say you may receive a text message saying you won a prize at a store like Target, Walmart, Bestbuy, etc., and you need to claim your prize by importing a bunch of personal information on a web site.
The text message will give you a pin number that you will need to enter on the web site within 24 hours. Then it will ask you to fill out some contact information.
This is a nationwide scam that has been reported numerous times to the Better Business bureau and FBI.
The Sheriff advises people to not answer the text message and to just delete it.
