One Northern Michigan County Using New Technology to Salt Roads

One Northern Michigan county is using new technology to keep roads salted, and save money while doing it.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is using a new attachment on several salt trucks in Kalkaska County to help keep the salt from bouncing around and off the road once it's spread.
It's a huge rubber tube with a spreader on the top that spins salt out, instead of spreading it all over.
For now, it's a pilot program.
Information will be collected from around the state to determine what kind of savings can be made.
The trucks go 25 miles an hour when using this special equipment.
M-DOT wants to remind drivers to give them room to groom and slow down when you are around the trucks.
