Governor Snyder Proposes Connecting Trails From Detroit to Wisconsin

Posted: Updated:

A proposed trail would provide a unique way to travel across the state from Belle Isle in Detroit all the way to Wisconsin.

Governor Snyder announced the proposal for the trail just last week. He wants Michigan to become "The Trail State."

Many northern Michigan communities hope it will attract more visitors.

One of the existing trails in the governor's proposal runs near the Oscoda and Crawford County line.

The Crawford County Trails Committee would like to see the governor's trail connected to a project they have proposed that would link together cities and existing trails in the area.

While it is unclear exactly what the final trail would look like, local trail advocates welcome the conversation.

The existing trail in the area that is part of the governor's proposal is used mostly for hiking and some mountain biking. It is still unclear exactly what the rules would be on the new connected trail.
