Brimley Man Facing Prison Time for Assaulting Tribal Police Officer

A Bay Mills Indian community member is facing prison time for assaulting a tribal police officer.

Lorne Lyons of Brimley and a member of the Bay Mills Indian Community was convicted today of assault upon a Bay Mills Tribal Police officer with a sword.

The incident happened on May 7th after Lyons sent a text message saying he had committed a suicidal act.

When police arrived, they found that Lyons was hiding in a closet and refused to come out, instead he showed his short sword and threatened police with it.

Lyons allegedly threw the sword at one of the officers after he was tased.

If convicted, Lyons could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

He will be sentenced May 23, 2013.
