Cadillac Awarded Grant For New Playground

Posted: Updated:

Children in Cadillac have a new reason to be happy; they will soon have a new place to play.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources awarded the city a $45,000 dollar grant for a new playground, at Lakefront Park.

Currently, the park only has a swing set, where the new playground will stand.

It will be the first public playground in the city that's fully accessible, even for the handicapped; wheelchair ramps will be included.

The Mayor of Cadillac, Bill Barnett says the city has been working to get funding for this project since Springtime.

"We are very excited to receive this grant.  We had about a 1 out of 4 chance for getting it, about 80 applications.  We were third out of 80 applications."

The city will cover 25% of the project.

Construction will begin next Spring or Summer.
