State Reps Hear "Kelsey's Law"

Posted: Updated:

A Northern Michigan woman is determined to turn her family's tragedy -- into an opportunity to keep teens safe.

Today, Bonnie Raffaele took one more step toward that goal.

...In January of 2010, her 17-year-old daughter Kelsey drove into an oncoming vehicle head-on, and died.

Kelsey's family discovered that she had been talking on her cell phone.

Since then, Bonnie has been working on a bill -- known as "Kelsey's Law" -- that would make it illegal for all beginner drivers with a level one or two license to talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.

The legislation has already passed the State Senate, and today -- was presented to the Michigan House Transportation Committee in Lansing.

9&10's Evan Dean and Photojournalist Tony Zyber were at the emotional hearing, and have the story.
