UPDATE: CMU Student Sentenced for Trying to Poison Roommate

Now an update on the former Central Michigan University student who poisoned her roommate over dirty dishes.

Kayla Bonkowski was sentenced in Isabella county to 4 months in jail , 4 months on house arrest, and 3 years probation.

In November Bonkowski put household cleaner in her roommate's iced tea after the two fought over dirty dishes.

Bonkowski then violated probation by confronting her roommate after she was told to stay away.

In this update, a Central Michigan University student has pleaded guilty to trying to poison her roommate.

Police say Kayla Bonkowski tried to poison her roommate back in November by putting bleach in a glass of her roommate's iced tea after a fight over dirty dishes.

Bonkowski's plea includes an attempted poisoning charge with up to 5 years in prison, but she could have her record cleared as part of the deal.

She originally faced up to 15 years in prison.

Police in Isabella County say a Central Michigan University student tried to poison her roommate.

19-year-old Kayla Bonkowski is accused of putting poison in her roommate's iced tea at their apartment in Union Township last month.

During the investigation, police learned that the roommates had been fighting over some dirty dishes and escalated to the point that Bonkowski put bleach into the 20-year-old victims ice tea.

The roommate was treated at a local hospital.

Bonkowski was charged today with 1 felony count of poisoning, she could face up to 15 years in state prison.
