Traverse City Public Schools Considering Banning A Controversial Book From Its Shelves

Posted: Updated:

Traverse City Public Schools are considering banning a controversial book from its shelves.

The book is titled, The Glass Castle, written by Jeannette Walls and published in 2005.

One family in the Traverse City District is hoping the book will be removed from 9th Grade Honors Classes, as well as all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade classes.

TCAPS says the family feels the book inappropriate for that age level.

This is the first year that the book was a required reading assignment.

It recounts its author's childhood as a struggling family in poverty.

The school board will take up the issue on December 10th.
